
Mr. Smoot is the Vice President of Construction for Glenwood Student Communities. In this capacity, Mr. Smoot is responsible for overseeing construction by working closely with the Engineers, Architect and General Contractor to build GSC’s Signature properties.
Prior to joining Glenwood, Mr. Smoot worked for Smoot Real Estate & Development, a real estate and development company. For 18 years, Mr. Smoot and Smoot Real Estate & Development have partnered with family estates to develop their land along the Northern Wasatch Front. This has included 100 phases of lots, building over 300 custom homes, Planned Unit Developments, and condos. Smoot Real Estate has also joint ventured to develop the Eaglewood Golf Course in North Salt Lake. The land surrounding the Golf Course is still being developed and released in phases. Eaglewood Estates & Golf Course includes 1100 acres of mountainside property with seven different housing products backing onto the National Forest Land 10 minutes from Downtown Salt Lake. It is one of the few large continuous land developments to still be solvent and generating profit in the state after 13 years. Mr. Smoot has been responsible for all of the development management at Smoot Real Estate and Development for the past 8 years. He has overseen the design, entitlement process, construction of all improvements, construction of homes, marketing, sales, management of Homeowner's Associations and warranty work and customer service for numerous other real estate developments.
Mr. Smoot graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor's in English with a Minor in Political Science. He also received his Associates Degree in Spanish from BYU Idaho (formerly Ricks College). Mr. Smoot got his Real Estate License in 1990 and his brokers license in 1999. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Northern Wasatch Home Builder's Association, the Utah Association of Realtors and the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. He is currently serving on the Board of Trustees of the Utah Association of Realtors.
